WHY SEEDS
The Antler River Seed Collective, (A.R.I.S.E.) is a Social Enterprise that supports a Community Seed Network, Seed School, Sister Seed Libraries, and Seed Advocacy., as Ambassadors for Seed Saving, Seed Stewardship & Seed Sovereignty.
Seasonally focused opportunities for experiential, hands on learning and mentorship through our Seed School, and workshops. Supporting Sister Seed Libraries, interchange and exchange. Shared tools, resources to sustain a collaborative a vision, and the creation of a Regional Seed Shed.
This work takes place on the traditional lands of the Anishinaabek, Haudenosaunee, Lūnaapéewak and Attawandaron Peoples, on lands connected with the London Township and Sombra Treaties of 1796 and the Dish with One Spoon Covenant Wampum.
We acknowledge the injustices of the past and present, and are committed to act in solidarity with Indigenous Peoples with humility, respect and reciprocity.
We are committed to working in peace and healing with the surrounding First Nation communities of the city of London: Chippewas of the Thames First Nation, Oneida Nation of the Thames and Munsee-Delaware Nation.
Many cultures have contributed to the preservation of plant diversity across Turtle Island, making this work possible. We begin by first humbly acknowledging Indigenous Peoples, on whose traditional territories this work takes place.
In each of us there is a history that can be reached through our seeds. It is amazing that today we remain in the company of many plant species which have fed and comforted our ancestors. We have lost some of these species along the way, however, we must look toward the future.
Seed saving is a way to preserve the biodiversity which is at risk, while helping us to remember our deeper connection to the land. Here at A.R.I.S.E we try to provide ethically sourced and native seeds to the Antler River and the Carolinian zone in which we are located.
