This is a fairly rare bean. As the name implies, this is a variety from Bosnia. A flat podded Romano type, that get quite plump and thick, meaty, stringless flattened pods. The fresh green beans are incredibly tasty. The white patch on the seed is said to develop after the seed ages awhile. A Pole bean, 65-75 days to fresh snaps, and 95 days for the first dry pods. The dry pods begin bi-coloured, and after a year or two become a triple coloured bean.

This Croatian bean soup recipe makes such a thick end-product, it's more like stew, and that's why it's known as grah i varivah (literally "beans and stews") in Croatian. It can be eaten as a main meal, but many people eat it as a hearty soup and then dive into the main course.
